Hack Manhattan

I've been a part of Hack Manhattan since October 2019 and have been a regular ever since. The organization focuses on providing an accessible maker space for people to build, sew or program. Many New Yorkers live in a shoebox and Hack Manhattan allows people to borrow the tools needed for projects that wouldn't otherwise be available due to space or budget constraints. It's a community of people who value the Do-It-Yourself mantra who exchange ideas an expertise.

Woodworking

  • I am a very mediocre at best woodworker but I'm learning a few things.
  • I used to build robots in high school so I’m comfortable around a shop with power tools. I recognize that not everybody has had this opportunity, so when I see people around the maker space looking for help with their projects, I try to educate them on how to safely use bandsaws, drills and the sort.
  • I have helped people make tube holders, tables, sewn goods, engraved heirlooms, standalone coat hooks - I love seeing what people create and assisting when I sense a desire to create but a hesitation due to lack of knowledge.

Website

  • I helped implement call-to-action buttons that help new visitors learn how to connect with the community on Discord.
  • I also helped with efforts to make media for grant applications and e-commerce.
